How to Fish Beginner Guide: First Hour
Finish the tutorial, learn the catch-fight-sell loop, buy only what solves the next visible blocker and protect quest drops. This route stays inside facts confirmed by the official store, current patch notes and first-hand boss testing.
Complete the tutorial before improvising
The sailor's tutorial gives you the intended opening. Follow the active objective, practice catching and selling ordinary creatures, then spend toward the task that is actually blocking you.
The game rewards trick shots with more money, but no universal best early purchase is claimed here. Prices, balance and route efficiency can move with patches.
Prepare for Spider Crab instead of repeating failed pulls
PC Gamer's first-hand solo run found a melee weapon, especially the knife, materially safer than bare fists. Co-op changes the risk, so the recommendation is not presented as a mandatory rule for every lobby.
Use terrain and the boss's recovery windows rather than standing in open ground. After the fight, carry the remains to the requested character instead of treating the boss drop as ordinary sale inventory.
Check the build before copying an old route
Patch 1.0.5 closed a shortcut that allowed travel to locked islands, and later patches changed difficulty, save handling and boss balance. A release-day speed route can therefore be wrong on the current build.
